Employment

We advise for both employers and employees on employment matters. This gives us a good insight into needs and problems of both.

EMPLOYEES

  • The law requires your employer to give you certain written Terms of Employment. We can advise you as to what these mean, what to do if you have not been given these and what your rights are if you do not agree with any Terms you have received.
  • Your employer should have a grievance procedure. Whether or not there are such written procedures we can advise you of your rights as to if you have a grievance and if so how you should make a complaint. The employer has to deal with proper complaints
  • You should be protected by your employer against discrimination. This can take many forms such as sex, sexual orientation, age etc. If you consider that you are being discriminated against we can help you
  • If you need to bring a claim before an Employment Tribunal we have the experience to formulate your claim and represent you
  • We can advise you on the terms of a Compromise Agreement. Your employer should pay your costs
  • Are you facing Redundancy? You may be unfairly selected. We can advise you and whether the redundancy package is fair and proper

EMPLOYERS

  • Employment law is a minefield for employers. You must have sound procedures in place. We can guide you
  • In particular we can prepare your Terms of Employment. It is a statutory requirement that employees are given such Terms. You will have serious problems if you do not and a claim is made to an Employment Tribunal
  • Supporting the Terms we can prepare your Employees Handbook. This sets out your Employment and Health and Safety Policies
  • You must be especially careful to avoid discrimination
  • We offer an ongoing telephone advice service
  • We will advise you on Disciplinary and Grievance procedures in general and on specific cases
  • In some cases a Compromise Agreement is advisable and can protect you from Employment Tribunal claims. We will draw these up for you
